I believe the distance is about 2000 miles. I haven't seen anything about how they get to the border. They certainly aren't walking. Do they have the money to ride a bus? Does Mexico even a have a train that runs the length of the country? Are Mexican coyotes taking all of a families' money to transport ... or requiring other forms of payment? What is Mexico's part in this movement of Central Americans across their country?

I would appreciate someone pointing me to a credible source that covers this.

Getting into Mexico via the southern border is not difficult..it's porous. However, how they manage the distance on the trek thru Mexico is a mystery. If they are paying cayotes then where are they getting the money since they are supposed to be victims of extreme poverty.

This thread from a few days ago addresses this and has some links:

A lot of money is being made (legally & illegally) in transporting illegals to the U.S. border.

Cartels and Coyotes control Mexico. We should be negotiating with them instead of the Mexican government. I mean why not? Obama negotiates with the Taliban.

Where there's a will, there's a way.

Also applies to our border security.

Obama joked in 2011 about Republicans wanting to build moats with alligators to stop illegals. Does that mean the only other option with Obama is to do nothing?

A guatamalan once told me he and his buddies rode a train most of the way straight into Texas. He said it is known that Texas is the easiest state to get into.

Once in the states, they went to NC and then to Louisiana after Katrina.

Train

quote:

Immigrants from Central America, who have no authorization to travel within Mexico, hop on cargo trains because it is the cheapest way for them to make it to the U.S. border, and also because when they are on the train route, they are less likely to get detained by Mexican immigration officials.

Sometimes it doesn't turn out so well.

I'm sure the Mexican govt is shuttling them from one end of the country to the other so they won't try to stay there.
