I agree that we need to put a much bigger focus on education in general. But read that snippet from the article again...

Implying that disadvantaged children would benefit the MOST from a good teacher?

So let me get this right. Us "privileged" ones are too dumb to benefit from the good teachers. Therefore we should force the good teachers into schools the gov. picks, even if they don't want to work there.

He's going to paint the solutions as the problems so his "solutions" can make more problems. Everything will be a race issue.

I read it the opposite way.

This is a factually correct statement but somehow, I doubt that Obama understands or is willing to admit WHY it is factual.

Is he saying AA and Latino students needs good teachers to succeed and whites and asians dont?

Or

Whites and asians benefit from better teachers and those teachers should be teaching in schools that are a majority of black and/or hispanic students?

Yes, and he is doing so accurately. See the Law of Diminishing Returns.

WeeWee's plan to improve education

1. Outlaw Teacher's Unions
2. Vouchers
3. Stop busing
4. DO NOT ARREST FEMALE TEACHERS FOR SLEEPING WITH STUDENTS! (just kidding)

Pivoting? Still looks like playing the race card to me...

Let him have at it. The government education system is fricked up anyway. If he wants to focus it on the "disadvantaged," it'd probably end up helping out the "privileged" even more.

What the students need are parents who put education first and make them study or put a boot in their sorry little asses.

Kids in disadvantaged communities have the most obstacles placed between them and a successful adult life. Everyone knows a great teacher or teachers can reelly help a kid suceed later in life. Everyone also knows the importance of good role models, of having someone the kids can look up to.

For many kids in disadvantaged communities, a good teacher is probably their best, and maybe only shot, as getting a kid to do the things necessary to get a good education, which will allow them to overcome those obstacles.

Kids in not as bad off communities, of course, still need good teachers... but also have other role models and other avenues (parents, tutors, etc) to help them succeed.

I agree with the president in that regard. If a teacher is going to make roughly the same amount of money no matter what, and they can teach in a suburban district with lots of parental involvement and few behavior issues, or an urban district with no parental involvement and tons of behavior issues, human nature says the teacher will go tho better district.

Just chuckle when Obama talks about improving education.

Democrats can't effectively reform education because they are beholden to the teacher's unions.

Any Dem action on education will only serve to funnel more money to the unions and have nothing to do with actually improving education.

I think he is saying that those kids are disadvantaged due to poverty and broken homes with parents who don't care. They really need good teachers to help them learn because nobody else will. Margin of error is less with them because a rich white kid in suburban America simply does have an advantage to succeed even if he gets a bad teacher here and there because his school likely has prestige and is viewed in a good light.

I think Obama is correct here. You have to bring in good teachers because poor neighborhoods won't produce good teachers

What are the chances that the majority of skilled and more experienced teachers are white?

If we do not have the money now to fix the education problem what are democrats going to do with all these dreamers that need education?

How do liberals reconcile open borders with free everything?

Yes.

No. They are too smart. Duh. Seriously, maybe you could have used a better teacher yourself!

No of course not, teachers should get to pick their own work assignments, their employer shouldn't get a say.
