why doesn't Texas mobilize it's NG

isn't the real job of the guard to defend it's citizens from outside (foreign) threats?
Why is it ok to send the national guard to the other side of the globe to fight so called terrorists but not defend your own citizens at home in there own houses?
Texas should call all it's active guard and use it to defend the border and tell Washington DC to go eff themselves, "we don't have extra manpower to fight your war in the middle east, we are busy right here doing your job for you".

Money
ETA: What would their NG do? They are not going to shoot illegals they see sneaking in. And if they arrest them and turn them over to INS, the illegals will have a permanent home in Texas.

The only reason Texas doesn't secede is for disaster funds. When Ike and Rita came, it devastated the Gulf Coast.
It's a lot easier to secede when you have several billion in the bank to cover those disasters. Perry acts like he takes a hard line with Barry, but he's just a mere sheep.

Are they back from Afghanistan?

Texans are opposed to government intervention. Obviously the free market can fix this. If people don't like illegal immigration will simply stop shopping at places that hire illegal immigrants.

Because reality (just summing up all the other posts).

What exactly would the NG do on the border? Detain people? OK. Then what? They would have to turn them over to INS, who will simply warehouse them and/or let them go.
Yes, it would cost the state of Texas a lot of money to put the NG on the border... but... the state is spending oodles of money right now on illegal immigrants. It might be getting close to a trade off.
I think the big reason is that, for all of the posturing on the right... a significant part of the Texas economy is literarly built on the backs of illegal immigrant labor. All of the McMansions in the suburbs of Houston and Dallas are built using immigrant labor. Yeah, land is cheap, and infrastructure costs are built into the MUDs, but cheap housing is a driver of the Texas economy.
Other drivers of the Texas economy are cheap food and cheap oil and gas labor and cheap building cleaners... again... all of which are powered by illegals.
