Just like the rest of the La. Coast this year keeper trout are scarce in grand isle from one end to the other.

I keep hearing this, but me and my buddies who fish out of Cocodrie are having a great summer. Today we caught 34 specks and regarded it as a bad day. This is the first time we found small fish, but we've been killing them.

The only thing I've heard is that there are fewer croakers than in years past, but the shrimpers appear to be having a great year....albeit they got started way later due to the late cold weather.

As far as some theories on why specks could be scarce this year:
1. The last few years we've had higher than usual river levels for long periods, which could have pushed spawning fish further away to higher salinities.
2. The cold weather we had this year may have affected fish more than folks were able to fully ascertain. I didn't see many reports of fish kills, but I guess it's possible some occurred and no one found them.
