Virtually every american and Briton in the 19th century professedto be a christian so both pro and anti slavery ffacions were led by christians who used scripture to justify their positions. RL Dabne was consideredone of the foremost theologians of that era, who is still revered by some conservative Christians. By modern standards, he was a vicious racist who used the bible to justify slavery and the inferiority of non whites.
