You could do better at Academy IMHO

I recently got a Pompano 120 to get in the game and have been extremely pleased. Comes pretty well pre-equipped with some fishing rigging (anchor line, starport for rodholder/accessories front and center, etc), has plenty of dry storage as well as wet storage, and is also well suited for casual paddling.

You get them at West Marine. There's one in Lake Chuck & Lafayette.

Doesn't come with a seat though, so expect to spend another $60-100 at least.

Coming from a guy who's starter yak was the Perception Pecador 12 from Academy, I'd get an FS12T from Bass Pro as a first yak.

ETA: Nothing wrong with the Pescador. It's just not the ideal fishing vessel.

Don't really know anything about that yak but looks on par with the one from academy this looks a little overpriced. For that budget I'd go with the FS12T from bass pro.

Try renting first before you spend money on one. If you really want to get into the hobby after a few times renting you can get a nicer

I say the same thing in every one of these threads, but call Masseys and see if they are selling any demos.

Im looking at a Perception Pescador Sport 12'. Im 6'0" 219 lbs. Should I go larger with an entry level kayak? I know absolutely nothing about it but have been interested in kayak fishing for awhile. I was recommended this one by a friend.
