I pulled a ton of it, then acutely spot treated with roundup. It burned small holes in all the grass about the size of a salad plate, but the St. Augustine quickly (about 2 months)ran back over the burned spots and filled in.

This sounds like an inventive idea. Did you leave some of the crabgrass to absorb the Roundup or did you pull it up completely? If there is no green I know the roundup won't work on the roots.

I would just spot treat with round up and let the st sug grow over the brown spot. Ive burned a couple small areas of my st aug with fertilizer already and within a couple weeks, its back to new.

I pulled up most of it after a rain when I could get the roots up. The few I missed and some dandelions you can't get up by the roots, I came back and sprayed round up on.
