Every steel will rust.
Paint it.
Paint it.

When you wash the boat, you hand dry the whole boat?

My business is metal and let me make this very simple for you
Stainless steel will rust
Period.
There are better grades surely and they all have their pros and cons but yes it will rust
Clean it up and get rready to do it again or paint it

Yes, I dry the outside and all smooth inside locations.

If you want to use these pieces have them cleaned and passivated. They will do better. Based on the prices they probably are not 316/316L SS so money can buy better, but they are probably good enough. It's likely the tooling has imbedded some impurities into the material in the stamping process.

You could try Corrosion X.
Good advice. Corrosion X is a really good anti-corrosion/anti-rust product.

Stainless steel= stains-less
Not true. The name "stainless steel" is a misnomer.
quote:True. "Stainless steel" is susceptible to more stains than just those caused by rust. I know for a fact that certain acid containing products, e.g. toilet bowl cleaner, will irreversibly stain a "stainless steel" sink. Is it possible your stains might be caused by something other than rust?
leave a cast iron pot in your stainless sink for a few days. You WILL get rust stains on the stainless.

Bottom line. I understand your frustration to be dealing w/ corroding parts after spending good money on your boat, nevertheless, it happened. I'd remove the current corrosion, apply something like Corrosion-X to the hinges and watch it closely. If you continue to have problems, I'd next consider painting it or changing the hinges to a more corrosion resistant product.

These are the replacement hinges. Thoughts?

Gemlux says you can't prevent it. The FAQ!
Says you gotta bed it in marine adhesive.

Just paint em with a good paint once and call it good enough
Is it just discoloring or is it leaking rust water?
