Which is fine. The OP wanted to get a higher salary because the company policy for a new employee wasn't the same as the policy at the company where he put in the time to get the extra week. I can see asking for an extra week but not salary in lieu of it.

well he is definitely over thinking it, but its not unusual to ask for more money and to come up with some reasons for this ask.
i would ask for an extra week but I would be surprised if they gave it to you.
