American officials said their assessment was that five of the Iraqi Army’s 14 divisions were “combat ineffective,” including the two that were overrun in Mosul.

Michael Knights, of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, wrote recently that 60 out of 243 Iraqi Army combat battalions “cannot be accounted for, and all of their equipment is lost.”

Earlier this year, the military had just three Cessna aircraft able to deliver American-made Hellfire missiles, but recently the army was down to two aircraft and was running out of missiles, officials said.

This is what happens when you replace officers due to politics. You get a political army. Political armies do what politicians do. They run away from the real issues so they can campaign on trying to fix them.

Fwiw, the numbers are going to spike at the beginning, as the lesser trained/more apt to leave are weeded out. Hopefully what you'll have left are the professionals.
