You can hook a fish in the mouth, a gator in the stomach and no one cares. You can kill several animals with a bow and no one cares. But you kick one damn dog and everyone freaks out and they want you arrested..... This chit is getting out of hand... Dogs have the same rights as humans these days....SMH

disturb a bald eagle & you get-

increased civil penalties for violating provisions of the Act to a maximum fine of $5,000 or one year imprisonment with $10,000 or not more than two years in prison for a second conviction. Felony convictions carry a maximum fine of $250,000 or two years of imprisonment. The fine doubles for an organization. Rewards are provided for information leading to arrest and conviction for violation of the Act.

You're comparing highly evolved, bred, intelligent mammals that many scientists believe have a rudimentary theory of mind (ie consciousness)
Vs.
Prehistoric reptilian creatures with no pain receptors and a peanut sized brain that does little more than tell their heart to beat

Why are you kicking dogs?

If I could have a pet dolphin I would

I wish there were no more cats. Other than killing mice, the only purpose they serve is to point out the lonely women

Because they decided to come over to the winning team.

Well at its basis, it's because people have close emotional ties to dogs and cats. They are "family."
Also, on a more philosophical level, domesticated animals depend heavily on humans for their existence (in the same way that children depend on parents). Thus, mistreating an animal that "trusts" you and depends on you for it's very survival is more morally objectionable than hunting a wild animal that lives of its own volition.

If cats or dogs tasted like chicken and pigs, a lot less people would be pet owners

Western culture places special value on these two species as they are considered family pets or companions. Go to Vietnam and they are in the food chain.
Personally, I will take my dog over a number of people any day of the week. Given that she recently growled at my ex-wife, that essentially cemented her position in my household. And no, I didn't train her to do that one. It just happened. Ex actually raised her during puppyhood. I took over after ex left.
