I'm scared of going to JAB or similar because I'm a skinny guy and I've heard they run super big. But I don't have a lot to shell out either

If you are thin with shoulders, a Perlis off the rack suit will probably fit you like a blouse. The typical Perlis suit will have a 6 inch drop meaning a 40 jacket will come with 34 pants. You probably would need at least an 8 inch drop, which is pushing the limits of their in house alterations' abilities. My personal opinion, and I have no independent verification to back it up, is that Perlis has at least a 3x markup on suits. JAB is cheap but the signature line is more legit. They carry a slim and extra slim line (8 inch+ drop) which are stylish but suitable for office environment. Less tailoring needed the better. Sometimes you can pick up two for $300 on sale. There is guy at downtown Nola JAB who is quite slim and knows his shite, Hampton. You could get a Hugo for under $400 at the Saks 50% off sale next week and probably around $300 when it goes to 70%.
