I'm trying to understand why my apartment made me give a 60 day notice, when the article says 30 day notice.

They are basically making me pay an additional months rent at the "month to month rate"...not my original rate. My apartment said since your lease ends July 4th and you have to give 60 days notice, you'll be living there for another 30 days....Is that even legal?

My original rate (and had I renewed) is $1250
Month to month is $1700

because the complex can make the terms more if they want, if you agree to them

30 days is the minimum notice

That sucks. You should have read your lease before signing, though.

We require only the standard 30 day notice, but I've seen lots of potential residents get screwed because they didn't know they had to give a 60 day notice. There are a lot of apartments in Baton Rouge that require 60 days.
