Horn Island excursion

Thinking about going to Horn Island over the 4th with the fam. I have been with friends before and we usually head over in the morning, spend the night in a tent, then head back the next day. I haven't done it in probly 5-6 years.
What part of the island is best for camping. What should I go fishing for? All I remember catching is 3' sharks.
Are dogs allowed?
Any other advice/suggestions welcome.

When I go I usually camp on the east side of the island. Tuck behind a dune if it's windy. North of the west end of the island i've always caught specks and reds wade fishing.
Not 100% on the dogs but either they are not allowed or have to be on a leash at all times. There is a ranger station on the island and being the 4th i'm sure others will have dogs. Best to call and check.

I prefer to camp twords either end, stay away from the center as the bugs will tote you off. As has been posted there will be rangers patroling esp. on a holiday so leave the glass and dog at home and all will be ok. The fishing really depends on water conditions and clarity. Shoot for specs and or reds as they are the most common but don't be surprised at what you catch. Be sure to secure your boat very well as a change in wind direction during the night can lead to a long swim in the morning. There are going to be lots of people partying out there on the forth so be prepared. Take twice the ice and water and half the beer you think you need.
