No, Mandarin Chinese is followed by Spanish. English is 3rd but English is the international language for business right now.

Incorrect. English is 2nd unless you just mean native speakers.

Maybe as a native language, but a good portion of the world at least understands English.

English is spoken by more nations than any other language.

Mandarin is spoken pretty much exclusively in China.

The number that follows is the total number of countries that use that language (from Weber, 1997):
English (115)
French (35)
Arabic (24)
Spanish (20)
Russian (16)
German (9)
Mandarin (5)
Portuguese (5)
