I watched in Brooklyn with a schoolteacher who isn't a sports fan and, bless her heart, was sort of rooting for Ghana out of sympathy for them for having to live in what must be a shitty country. I came prepared, though, and referenced Ghana's custom of using virgin teen girls as currency to settle family debts, one of the sickest forms of traditional slavery in the world today, if you ask me. "Oh my," she said, and began rooting for USA.

Call me an a-hole, but I'm a staunch abolitionist, and that's why I root for the Yanks.

In all seriousness, the girl in the OP probably knows somebody from Ghana or has spent time there pretending to help Africans. There were two Ghanaians at the bar I was at. Nice guys, decked out in their white kits.

I don't care if she saved that fricking nation, you don't root for them over the US.

I lived in France and love that country, but never in a million years would the thought cross my mind to support France over the US. What a count.

As far as African nations go, Ghana really isn't that bad (the company I work for looked at some opportunities in Ghana)... I mean it would still totally suck compared to anywhere here, but armed militants probably aren't taking over your local mall to commit mass murder.
