10+ years but still I am sure you can find one on eBay or Craigslist for under $50
My point is a good bat is meaningless at that age for two reasons, one he will outgrow it in a year or 2 and two the only thing that matters is swinging technique at that age

While I agree with you, in my experience the cheaper bats have a tendency to dent and crack pretty easy. I have bought a few for my teams to practice with.
