Honestly, focus more on what the kid can swing quickly and feels comfortable. It does no good to have the most "pop" in your bat and you have ZERO bat speed. Bat speed is way more important, so find the size and length your kid can swing the quickest and move on from there.

My son is 9 and swings a Demarini Voodoo 29/16
I couldn't justify spending. $279 on the Easton Mako (bright orange bat pictured above) for a 9 yr old. A bat is not going to make a huge difference.

If you spend more than $50 at that age you are an idiot
The only thing that matters at that age is swinging mechanics and fundamentals.
I see too many 9 year olds these days with $100+ bats who have no idea how to swing a bat. They try to uppercut the ball or muscle it out from underneath.
Teach them proper swinging technique: bat speed by bringing your hands to the ball, not strength, muscle or power is the way to hit a ball.
