Rick Perry: Homosexuality Is Like Alcoholism

SAN FRANCISCO — Texas Gov. Rick Perry drew a comparison between alcoholism and homosexuality during a California visit that also dealt with economic issues.
Perry’s comments to the Commonwealth Club of California came after Texas’ Republican Convention on Saturday sanctioned platform language allowing Texans to seek voluntary counseling to “cure” being gay.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports that in response to a question about the voluntary counseling, Perry said he did not know whether the therapy worked.
Perry, a former and potential future GOP presidential candidate, was then asked whether he believed that homosexuality was a disorder.

“I may have the genetic coding that I’m inclined to be an alcoholic, but I have the desire not to do that, and I look at the homosexual issue the same way,” he said.

Rick Perry is a moron... Isn't he a closest homosexual?

Phat Phuck Christie made this illegal in New Jersey. So much for choice.

Definite moron. There's no gay gene.

Seems like a pretty straightforward take on the idea of genetic predisposition.
I guess it's fun to try to twist it into some sort of slam on him, though.

Well it could have been worse. He could have compared it to pedophilia.

So are you saying homosexuals aren't allowed a choice in their lifestyle?

he sounds like a "born that way" guy to me.
I thought gaydom agrees with this. Why the anger?

Rick Perry continues to struggle with homosexuality. It's amazing that so many grown men are pussies who can't free themselves of this superficial struggle.

And so Republican primary season begins...

The comparison is not as far fetched as the liberal media will spin it. Alcoholism is detrimental to the health/well being of an individual and often has negative impact on loved ones. Homosexuality potentially can have a negative impact on society and human survival/perpetuation of the species.

Yeah, that's pretty offensive.

Odd. I don't see the problem.
Genetic predisposition (which is essentially the "born that way" argument), is just that.
People have the genetic predisposition for heart disease, diabetes, etc.; however, they don't all develop the symptoms or disease (and can modify their behavior to prevent it).

such a curious approach here.
Perry appears to be moderating but the other side has never moderated.
And what is the reaction to someone showing signs of even modest movement to their position?
"Let's beat the shite out of him"

Of course he does because he claims to be christian (I only say claims because I can't read thought). But there is freedom of religion in this country and not all religions or feel that same way.
He has a right to his opinion and I am one of the more vocal supporters of gay rights.
I don't think he is right and wouldn't vote for him, if he was trying to deny rights or bring it into politics I would be a lot more upset about this.
At least he agrees therapy does nothing.

This is just a horrible analogy and I doubt this goes any deeper than that.
Sex is a biological necessity and everyone will eventually sexually mature, but alcoholism can be in your genes and never be triggered until you drink.
