Well it hasn't been true for some time now, but you seem to have a dog in this fight.

My heart goes out to the African American movie-goer that looks forward to these historical dramas, only to find that Oprah has inserted herself into yet another black film.

It seems there can't be a black period film without Terrance Howard, Cuba Gooding Jr, or Oprah appearing in it.

No one's going to forget what happened in places like Birmingham and Selma; I don't underfand the need to constantly dwell on it, it kind of halts racial progress. Every black person I know rolls their eyes at Oprah and movies like this.

Nobody forgot about 9/11, wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, Vietnam, WWII, WWI, etc. but they still make movie about it and no one ever complains.

Oprah is such a joke, I thought she was brilliant the way she came up made a bill and basically killed it for 25 years, I had a lot of respect. But now I'm thinking she basically just had a good deal and wasn't controlling her own destiny like I thought. After leaving her day job she's been a bust, and entertainers that suck Obama off anytime they possibly can in the media is the ultimate low, she might be a joke

Oprah's filmography and career is nothing close to what you seem to think that it is.

Okay, I just bothered to read the list of the "19 movies she's in." Apparently, in your world, appearances on Sesame Street and 30 Rock count as film credits.

What's really funny is that you apparently didn't bother to read it either.

I didn't say that at all, and yes I looked at it.

But one thing that it does prove is that she has done more in cinema than you have suggested.

I think you are reaching here, if you don't like Oprah then that's fine and all, but you are being a bit disingenuous by suggesting all she has done throughout her career is play the token "strong independent black woman" promoting some racist agenda.

No, it proves that for Oprah, appearances on Jimmy Kimmel count as film credits.

I would just like to point out that we're nearing the end of page 3 of this thread and nobody has posted the spinning Oprah "U Mad" .gif

Consider my disappointment officially noted.

Hell, I'll settle for the Oprah "Bees" one.

Whatever I need to tell myself for what? Does that statement actually mean anything or are you stuck in hackneyed pop culture isms?

These TD debates are priceless. I'd just as easily beat the shite out of a toddler. But keep knighting for Oprah - noble racial warrior of luxury boutiques that she is.

So inspiring.

It means whatever you have to tell yourself, in order to convince yourself that what you are saying is true.

It pretty obvious that you don't like her, and that's fine. It's also obvious you don't really know enough about her career to comment on it.

This really was not a debate at all seeing as how you didn't bring much to the table. I would put the house on the toddler if this is what you think a "priceless debate" is.

Can she be in a movie about something else for a change?

To be fair, a lot of actors tend to gravitate to one or two types of movies. Its only the very best that can have success in a wide variety of genres.

I doubt I'll ever see this movie. But if its what she feels comfortable doing and it's a financially sound strategy for her, then mover power to her.

Yeah, I don't know if I've ever watched an Oprah movie and it does seem she only does these types of movies, but then I think of other actors who always play the same role. Deniro is frankly almost always the same, Liam Neeson has been the same character in everything since Schindlers List, Statham for sure, Clint Eastwood, Harrison Ford...

Hey yeah. Selma. I've sort of heard of that. It was about turbulence and the sixties and race and YEAH!

Let me guess: the 50th anniversary of Selma isn't worthy of film for you, yet you LOVE you as many WWII rah rah movies as you can get?
