Not good to eat.

I don't know about this.

When grilled fresh or eaten raw fresh I have never had a problem with it. It isn't as mild as snapper, and it has a distinct flavor some people probably don't like, but I don't mind it one bit.

When you start glowing in the dark from eating too many you'll have a problem.

I have kept one, sliced it, soaked it in 7up to kill the oil and taste, then fried it. It was OK, not horrible but OK. You just have to run past soooo many better tasting and textured fish to get to the kings, so why bother.

Ok, ok, I was just joking about eating the oily bastards. I've never done that. I thought the sarcasm was a bit more obvious.

No I don't intend on keeping them for anything other than a weigh-in and bait. No plans to feed to my wife or my yet un-conceived children. Just to snapper.

ETA: Now can we get this thread back on track for how to actually catch them?

We caught them all the time when I lived in Miami. Smoke them and then make fish dip or eat on sammiches is the only way I really like them.

Edit: The people in S. FL fricking love those things. That's the first time I had ever eaten them. I missed the sarcasm up there

I just can't get past the grey tinge to the meat.
