I think you have to break this down into different subjects. (that is if you read and expose yourself to different sources) IE:
Socioeconomic: Sowell (hard to argue his perspective and points)
Life in General: Dostoevsky
Government from yesteryear to today: Jefferson "Whenever the people are well-informed, they can be trusted with their own government."
Struggle: Confucius "When it is obvious that the goals cannot be reached, don't adjust the goals, adjust the action steps."
Education: ""The test of a good teacher is not how many questions he can ask his pupils that they will answer readily, but how many questions he inspires them to ask him which he finds it hard to answer." *Unknown
If it is all on the line and there are no rules I fall back to: Sun Tzu
