Shitty thing is you get that motor with a dodge wrapped around it. Dodge will never overcome their rep of cracked dashboards and blown transmissions no matter how good they are and how good the warranty is.
Eh, I don't buy that. They'll never beat out GM or Ford in yearly sales, but monthly sales and overall market share gain says they are getting past their old faults just fine.

No doubt. I can think of 3 gas engines that are more powerful (tq) than the 3.0 and cost a fraction of the small diesel. GM 6.2 (460tq) Ford 6.2 (434tq), 3.5 (420tq, increase in 2015) They all cost less and can tow more. Not a good debut for a modern diesel in a 1/2 ton.
They also all get nearly half the fuel mileage and the V8's make similar tq numbers but way higher in the RPM range.
For "not a great debut", it's been selling quite well so the demand is obviously there.

I to would have liked to have seen a 1/2 ton diesel with a little more power, but I have to give props to dodge for taking the risk. I think Ram has really but some serious money in their brand and are producing the nicest truck on the market today. The one issue Ram will have to overcome is if it will be a quality truck 7/8/9 years down the road.
But as stated it will get interesting once the small truck market gets diesel engines that will be the area where you see the most bang for your buck I think.

half the fuel milage
Oh come on now. The GM 6.2 gets 21 mpg hwy. The 3.0 gets 28 hwy. That's not quite half. Plus, the 6.2 makes 40ftlbs more Tq.
Let's add the huge initial cost of the 3.0, the extra cost of diesel fuel, urea (cheap but still), and high dollar oil changes. Now are you so sure that the diesel is a great deal?
What about the fact that the 3.5 and both 6.2s are rated to tow more weight?
