What are you going to do about private lands that abut the border? Are you going to seize their land and render it unusable?

No. The owners will be informed of where the land mines are located. The owners would love the idea since it would stop illegals from entering their territory.

And what are you going to do when animals set off mines every two minutes?

The owners don't have free ranging live stock. If a squirrel sets of a land mine then I'm sure we won't have shortage of squirrels.

What about metropolitan areas such as San Diego, El Paso, Brownsville, etc., where downtown areas are bisected by the border?

They are not bisected by the border. They are in the US. If you are in a section that is not the U.S. then you can step on a land mine. Very simple. Very efficient.

No one will die since there will be signs in Spanish and a lot of pictographs showing people blowing up.

Land mines have proven their effectiveness for securing borders for over 100 years.

Next question??

Jesus, Zach. You aren't this dumb. There are buildings: homes, businesses, multistory office complexes that sit 10 feet inside the US. Are you proposing the federal government showing up and leveling these structures for your land mine field? A land mine field needs to be at least a few hundred yards wide, plus at least another hundred yards of demarcation zone. Not sure how you feel about this, but the federal government has overstepped their bounds enough already without seizing thousands of square miles of private property (any more than they already have).

The desert is full of animals that aren't squirrels. Wild horses, burros, coyotes, massive jackrabbits the size of small dogs, etc., will trigger land mines around the clock. Replacing these mines will require exhaustive, extensive maintenance.

But hey- don't stop with just land mines. Why not use predator drones and AC-130 gun ships, too? Any time we get a visual confirmation of someone crossing the border, we can destroy them immediately with no trial, no due process or legal examination. Even US citizens, too. After all- there will be pictographs of people getting blown up.

And why stop there? How about if a cop sees you breaking the law, he gets to walk up to you from behind and run a .40 bullet through your skull. We can publish pictographs in advance and distribute them through pamphlets, PSAs and newspapers so we'll all know in advance of what can happen if we break the law.

You probably understand border security issues better than me anyhow. I guess my decade as a Border Patrol agent in Arizona didn't teach me much. Let's get those land mines deployed, stat.
