Bregman was able to hit in the regionals with this type of pitching..I noticed he batted forward in the box, getting the bat on the ball before it broke down. The rest of the hitters stayed back in the box and swung at balls in the dirt.

Rather intelligent and true post here. What are you doing on the Rant? Haha Educated posters like yourself are the glimmer of hope I stick around for. Thanks.

First off a sinker and a split are completely different pitches and no where near the same. Sinker is easier to pick up spin on and from a righty tends to break down and in to a righty almost completely opposite style break of a cutter. Split is much harder to pick up. Basically as same spin as a fastball except it doesn't rotate nearly as often from the hand to homeplate causing it to fall instead of going in more of a straight line. Now for the moving up in the box and hitting the ball before it breaks that has to be one of the dumbest statements ever but it's said so often but no pitch breaks that late not even a cutter from Riveria. Moving up in the box would help more with dealing with a slower pitch than dealing with movement and that is truely a very small amount that it helps with that, but every little bit counts and remember hitting is often considered the hardest thing to do in sports. Then when you do it great and hit a ball hard there are still 8 people trying to get ya out.
