I was. Yes, he was a great guy. Got caught up in a couple of downturns in the program and then got caught up in some politics.
At that the attempted running of the football program was a joke. The HC had the program. On paper he answered to the AD. In reality, he answered to the BOS. The BOS made complete asses out of themselves, particularly in their antics when hiring Archer.
The BOS's involvement really did not get de-emphasized until Mark Emmert oversaw the hiring of Nick Saban.

Mac was a great coach. His biggest problem was not winning games, but could never beat the Bear & bama.
