Does the NFL require - i.e., have a rule - that states x number of players on the roster have to be a QB? Not to my knowledge. Besides, if a team has their backup goalkeeper injured/sent off, they're probably fricked anyways. It's not like the 3rd GK can save them at that point.

I'm not saying it wouldn't serve some teams well to take 3 GKs, I'm saying they shouldn't be required by rule to do so. I think the US would be perfectly fine taking only 2 keepers, considering the quality of those two. Spain too.

I wouldn't be super bummed if Rimando had to play just like Spain wouldn't care too much if De Gea ended up having to be put in.

It's kind of a dumb rule to have but like I said, I think most manager would just call up 3 by default.

Chances are if that last guy could slip into the final roster even with an extra spot for an outfielder player, they wouldn't have made much a difference anyway.
