It's a terrible rule. It's not like if by some chance both GKs got hurt/sent off or whatever someone else couldn't go stand in the net.

It'd be a much easier transition for an outfield player to play in goal in a pinch than the other way around.

I don't have any scientific reasoning to back me up, but I think it would be easier for a keeper to step into an outfield role if only for the fact that most keepers have probably played a different position at some point in their lives. Granted it may have been a long time ago that they did.

I have a friend who's pretty awesome as a forward/attacking mid and he tried playing keeper in a game we were kicking arse in and it did not look pretty.
