Spiers just shows up and tells Dyke "I got this." Asks Lipton what they are doing, Lipton tells him about Dykes flanking order, Spiers is just calm as can be like "No we're not gonna do that." By all accounts from the Easy men, the scene where Spiers runs through the German lines was depicted exactly as it happened.

I like later on, when Lip asks him about shooting the Nazi soldiers, Spiers gives him the "Sometimes it's better to let the men believe the legend" speech.
