I'm black, and I prefer the term black. I am an American 100%. I feel like being called an African American is a disservice to actual Africans. I have never been to Africa, and I know very minimal about their culture outside of what you learn in your high school world geography class.. I don't know of anyone who actually uses the term African American, unless in a professional setting.

This has been the gist of the thread. Someone (OP) who isn't black pretended as though black folks are offended by the term black and enamored with the term AA. I don't know anyone black in any setting that uses AA. I know a few whites who use it at "Diversity Training" and on the news. We don't use it in the workplace. We didn't use it at school. We don't use it personally.
