Same here. I say "black." And when I say it at work, my white colleagues will look at me as if to say "did you just say black? Are you allowed to say that?"

It's kind of funny. But yeah sorry, I realized at around age 17 that "African American" doesn't make any sense to label a black person.

I once used the term 'Oriental' and was quickly corrected by a white guy. "It's Asian, not oriental."

I asked him "What about Chinaman? Or Slant Eyes? How about Yellow Peril?"
