Something like this happened to me two years ago. I had to wait on a part (clock spring was on national backorder)from the dealer for 4 months and during this time my sticker expired. Got the part installed and drove straight to the place to get sticker and they failed me because the computer threw a code saying the battery had been disconnected. I had to go back in two days after so many miles.

A sensor is a little different that a cigg lighter. Nobody is going to reject your tag over a cig lighter. Don't be silly. Because y'all don't think it is important, doesn't mean it can't affect the car. A sensor can make the car run differently.
