I think we all agree he's a good player and an upgrade from beef. I'm just not ready to go 5 years for a catcher off a career year with a high babip.

it might never get that high and thus this point is moot. And he could carry on for 5 years (blocking shwarber) because he's a beast. I just don't want to take that chance.

I don't fell like we need to make a huge push right now because i think the competitive window is going to be open for a while.

I think this is why we disagree...I'm not even looking at his past offense and BABIP, I'm looking at historical defense, which is simply a lot better than what we have, and it won't diminish nearly as quickly as offense (I think Brett says as much in his article on Martin as well). I don't want to settle for a lower ceiling for what will eventually amount to a 4th rotation starter's difference in salary.

You may not be ready, but I sure as hell am for one of the top catchers in the MLB. And regarding Schwarber, don't pass up on a player because of the potential of one 3-5 years down the road. Logjams are a good thing.
