I imagine my opinion on gun ownership would be seriously challenged if my spouse and/or children were killed.

Would I become anti-guns? I don't think so. I understand why we have the right to bear arms and I believe I would continue to understand the importance of the 2nd Amendment.

However, I imagine that I would be in favor of stiff gun restrictions if I was personally affected by a gun tragedy.


If my loved ones weren't armed (say because they were following the law and were in a mall where even the killer isn't supposed to have a firearm), then I would be pissed at the law(s) that kept my family from protecting themselves while empowering any asshat that ignores the law got to kill them at his/her leisure.
