Mow at 3.5" to 4.0" every single week, bag any clippings, and most everything will get smothered out in a year. One granule atrizine application and a slow-release fertilizer application will give you a perfect lawn late summer or next spring.

I mow every single week. I think I may mow too short. I have my mower set to 1.5". I will raise my deck a little higher.

Also I have been using Triple 13 as the fertilizer. Is there a better fertilizer I may try? We got this big rain coming, I thought about putting out some more Triple 13 in the areas that are mostly stickers. I used a spreader and fertilized the whole yard about two weeks ago. I have about 3 acres of yard.

For St Augustine, that's way too short for gulf coast in my opinion. Longer blades of grass:
1. hold more moisture thus tolerate drought far better
2. chokes out other grasses and weeds.
3. makes it less susceptible to stress which in turn makes it more susceptible to fungus and other cooties.

Triple 13
Good stuff there. I don't use any fertilizer, though.

The only time I use any chemicals is if I've been gone for 6-8 months and let the yard go to hell (happens sometimes). When that happens, I cut it way down and apply this stuff.

By the end of the season, it's all back in shape.

Here's 2 yrs of zero fertilizers, just mowing at 4.25-inches.

It's a little rough looking right now due to rain (needs mowing & edging). But I have no weeds, fungus...nothing but soft St Aug.
