re: Official Belmont Thread.

For those who want Fridays pp's, or have them from me, i'll be getting updated ones, with post positions and odds. Those were the early ones, not sure why DRF posted them.

I'll get them Wednesday and the Belmont day pp's as soon as they come out.

He is truly an idiot. I'd be retiring him right after the Belmont unless I got a mega insurance policy to race him in the Classic.

According to Sherman comments, the owners have just taken out an insurance policy on him, so that could actually be the best news of the day if it means he races through 4. Hell, if he makes it through a tough 3 and 4 year old campaign intact, on top of a steady 2 year old campaign, his durability alone would be good enough reason to take mares to him.

Here is the other reason I think they want to race as a 4 year old. While everyone says that Lucky Pulpit has 5 crops to race, they are including this year's two year olds which have just begun to race, (and win as I saw at Santa Anita recently). And this year's 2 year old crop is over half of all foals he has sired, and really the first crop that has made it to the track that were out of more decent mares than not. Considering the type of mare he was likely getting early on and in such few numbers, the fact that he has has TWO Kentucky Derby starters seems remarkable to me. Also looking at his top performers, they appear to be pretty durable and last at their class level through several years.

In addition, being his dam's first foal, no one knows exactly what kind of producer Love The Chase is yet. Another year on the track for CC will get her next foal to the starting gate hopefully. If she ends up a winner as well and Lucky Pulpit starts throwing more stakes performers with the increase in mare quality and quantity, you go from a suspect breeding to a family that appears on the up and up. That will immediately increase CC's stallion value.

Another thing I would love to see is the connections try CC on the turf. He has good turf pedigree top and bottom and winning a turf stakes as well as his dirt form will make him a more intriguing stud prospect. Losing a turf start wouldn't really take away anything.

Finally, I think they love the racing part of it. He is their only racehorse at this time.

We will see where he ends up. California is likely the favorite, but I could also see him doing very well in a place like Maryland if Kentucky already has too many Pulpit sires, which they do. If he wins on the turf, that will open up the world to him and he could shuttle between Cali and Australia/S. America.

With the reduced foal crops these days, I would actually prefer him priced at $15K to start with so that they can pick and chose the mares that will apply. At least his conformation will go well with 80% of the TB mares in America.

With SI out does that mean Chrome sets the pace? If so and he go at a reasonable pace is it over before it starts? Who will go out with him?

Well Samraat is usually forwardly placed. Tonalist has gone to the front, but that was a muddy track. General A Rod would likely at least be in a stalking position, but yeah out of every one in the race, if Chrome wanted the lead, then I think you would see the others having to work to keep up with him.

I dont see that happening. ill have another was sold for 10 million to a japanese farm. Imagine how much someone would pay for a triple crown winner. IMHO there is nothing else to prove after winning a triple crown.

Small hijack, ill probably be out at evd the 21st if you'll be there. :)

And I'll have another, much like Sunday silence, was sold to Japan due to lack of interest here.

I read another article on his stud value. Says 20-25,000 now, maybe will double if he wins Saturday.

Less than I would guess but he doesn't really have a super flashy pedigree.

Not sure if Ill be there or not. Ive been trying to go during the week more. Its more enjoyable because of less people and I can actually get a better look at the horses.

If I am the owners, I could care less what the stud fees are, if someone is paying 10 million(or more) I am taking the money and running. My point I guess is that I just dont see the point in running him anymore.

They won't ever completely sell him I think. They've already turned down 10 mil for him.

That day at evd should be a good one. Gantry going in the 300,000 turf sprint (yikes, 5f, wish it was a little longer) and many other stakes to support it. Should be a fun day.

I don't see how Wicked Strong and Tonalist are 2nd and 3rd favorites over Curlin and Curve.

welcome to New York bias.

As for PPs, I am guessing this means that Tonalist will likely try to speed out and get over. A Rod may try the same thing. As long as CC breaks well, he likely has the best natural speed out of the gate. It just depends on whether Victor decides to go to the lead or let the others cross over. That will likely depend on how the track is playing on the day. If you see speed holding, I think you will see CC galloping along on the lead with or without company.

If I'm not mistaken, Secretariat wore saddle towel 1A and broke from post 10.

Bump so I can talk about the betting contest. Those are some damn good races! Ill probably spend all day handicapping.

I'm really hoping nobody shows up at work for the Phipps.

This Belmont card is very, very good.

Might be best card since the 1990's and Pimloco. They used to attract top handicap horses for special and their under card was nailz.

Seriously, this might be as good, competition wise, as a breeders cup card. Every race has 3-4 top grade 1 horses in it, and some good younger sleepers.

Someone needs to bump the handicap contest thread, or post a new dedicated thread for it. I don't have time.

In other news, Coach Cal just GOT PAID.
