He didn't want it to be an over-the-top action sequence, and I think he completely succeeded. With Hope being the main theme of the film, I think he really brought that message home with the showdown at the end between the three characters. Blame the other X-Men films for falling flat on the action scenes, but I think it's a bit unfair with this film, since the only true action scenes were in the future and not the past in this film.


I could go with that if the emotional element had the weight that the rest of the film had (especially the beginning), but since the action was lacking and the emotion not reaching its potential it all felt kinda forced and empty.

Don't get me wrong I really enjoyed it. Just those are my nitpicks in a solid movie.
