People were trying to get a scoop on Thad cheating on his wife with a staffer. My best guess is that some idiots thought it would make a great ad if they could get video of Thad cozying up to the other woman and then flash to a video of his incapacitated wife.

This is some messed up stuff. Apparently, a fairly well respected attorney has been arrested today.

Also, Butler Snow, the preeminent GOP law firm in Mississippi (Trent Lott and Haley Barbour are members and Phil Bryant's daughter is an associate) knew about the video and sat on it for TWO WEEKS before disclosing it. Don Clark is Thad's attorney and the head of the firm. The rumor is that he sat on it, in conjunction with Thad and his people, in order to release it closer to the election for maximum political gain.

So, it appears both camps are lying about the video, knowledge of the video, etc. Cochran's camp is trying to maximize this for his gain now.

The Tea Party has stepped on their dicks.

What an inbred boondoggle. Of note, the campaign chair for Thad Cochran is Senator Roger Wicker's son-in-law. He was the chief of staff for Phil Bryant before filling that post - and Phil Bryant used to fashion himself as the 1st Tea Party Governor.
