In what way is this different from cabs and other car services and why should people be able to ignore established regulations to operate that type of business?

No hassle, no cash exchanged, no faulty meters. No bs fees for extra passengers. Uber tracks through gps and derives fare based on time and distance. Uber cars are clean and fairly new. System protects both the driver and rider. Fares are significantly cheaper than cabs. It's a customer satisfaction driven business.

Exactly. I have a driver I use if I need someone to drive me around town for 4-5 hours on a date or something but for any normal ride I just Uber.
