"I stand here today as a uniter not as a divider," says Mayor Kip Holden. "The question is are we going to draw a dividing line or work together for the future of everybody." "My mother lives in the St. George area," says Councilwoman C. Denise Marcelle "However, I don't believe I should stand in the way of government in terms of them being annexed into our city. I'm not going to stand in the way of the St. George petition neither am I going to stand in the way of them annexing in." Councilman Buddy Amoroso wanted the council to defer the decision for 30 days to allow the St. George fire chief to report how the annexation would affect its services, but that motion failed.

Well that's the last time I shop at that place. Taking my dollars to Ascension at all times if possible.

What order did they vote?
If they voted mall first, it's invalid.
Oh, and frick them.

The Metro Council could have a gold and platinum mine in their district and the EBRPSS would still be shite.

Darn... without the Mall there is no St. George, and I don't get to be mayor.
I had my stump speech prepared and everything.

Is Siegen Marketplace next? Or is that already within the city of BR by some odd twist of the map?

And the white flight just shifted into a higher gear.

Except that's not what you're doing, Kip. If you really wanted to be a uniter, you'd be championing the message of the folks in st George and doing everything in your power to address their concerns. Instead, you and the Metro Council are mocking everything they say, claiming the tried and true goody "racism", and using every tactic you can to avoid a real debate. Congrats for pandering to your vote farm, Kip.

Does it seem odd to anyone else that NONE of the leaders of the St George incorporation effort spoke during the public hearing today regarding the Mall, et al, annexations?

quote:That is quite impressive. According to this map LINK, prior to the recent annexations in response to the St. George incorporation drive, Baton Rouge had annexed 3 parcels since 2000. The first was on 5/24/2000, and it was the eastern end of Richards Dr. The annexed properties appear to be about 7 large private residences. The next annexation was on 2/25/2004, and it consisted of one or two properties at the northeast corner of Essen Ln. and One Calais Ave. And the third was on 5/26/2010. An area between Nicholson Dr. and Burbank Dr., south of LSU, and containing all of the apartments around Ben Hur Rd.
I stand here today as a uniter not as a divider
Pretty exclusive club that the recently annexed properties joined under the self-proclaimed uniter Kip Holden. For the prior 13+ years very few property owners petitioned for annexation, only one group while Kip Holden has been Mayor-President, and now we have more property owners do so in a single month. According to some, it was merely the possibility of being incorporated into St. George that caused only the minimum number of property owners necessary to capture the largest sources of tax revenue to petition for annexation. The necessary property owners did not need any inducements to simultaneously arrive at the conclusion that they would benefit from annexation. And it isn't the least bit curious that not a single other nearby property owner had the same spontaneous reaction, or perceived the necessary benefits of petitioning for annexation.
