Regarding BRCVPA...it is a magnet school. It consistently ranks as one of the best schools in the state. However, it is set up as a visual and performing arts school. The principal has dexided to cut the visual arts teacher and roll that position into the duties of the regular teaching staff. It started a firestorm. Some of the same people that started better together are now turning their guns on him. This is gonna be fun to watch.

That's what I saw last night.

The principal was an older guy, and the people in the crowd wouldn't listen to his explanation. They want their Art teacher and there was no mood to compromise.

Isn't this an elementary school?

JMHO, but why are we in need of a visual and performing arts school magnet school at the elementary level?

I realize the school is an A school, and I'd bet it has won all kind of awards, but shouldn't it be an A school if you are getting the cream of the crop from an entire parish?

It's really not "cream of the crop" as it is a lottery to get in. Entry is not based on performance but staying is.

I can't really answer about why the emphasis is needed, except tha it really is beneficial for the kids. I know my son is far more outgoing after being in this program. He has also learnes 3 different musical instruments that would not have been possible any other way.

Btw, there is more to this story that may come out. Keep an eye on this.
