Another option if you don't trade him is the stretch provision. Let's say in his last year he should be able to at least get $5 million per year as a FA, buy him out for $11.

It really depends on what is available in Free Agency. Is there a free agent we want the year before his contract is up or is there a free agent we want after his contract is up?

If we don't pick up any new long term deals this year we'd have about $10 million to work with after the $3 million in dead money. Omer Asik, DeAndre Jordon, and Jeff Green will be available.

This gets tricky. Technically you could cut everyone but Holiday, Evans and Davis and pick up Durant. But if Demps doesn't pick up any long term contracts between now and 2016, how does he keep his job?

Good one, mate - Larry sanders would be solid. Hadn't thought of that. We might have to throw in something else of value though.

Yeah, it's called taking back OJ Mayo and his $8 million per year deal. They wouldn't want Gordon and Mayo. The problem is Mayo, while more reasonably paid than Gordon, still is overpaid and redundant for the current roster build.

Somewhat risky but I think it would pay off and it would be like the Tyson Chandler acquisition part two

They could try to pursue that Green/Wallace trade that was talked about a few weeks ago. Through I would hope they could find a third party to unload Wallace's contract on. The most likely candidates for that, I would assume, are Milwaukee and Philadelphia. They'll both probably commit one more season to tanking before actually trying to win. The financial burden of Wallace's contract wouldn't really affect them until the following off-season. At that point his contract would be an expiring, so it would be much easier to unload him.

His contract is worse than Gordon's. Gordon can at least play like a $7 million player, Wallace has declined to DLeague level player (Per of 10 and 11 the last 2 years) while making $10 million per year. The ONLY reason you take that deal is if you planned to stretch Gordon anyway. Wallace would be less money to stretch.

I for one am happy you brought all of your wisdom to this board. It was floundering without some guidance from an expert such as yourself.

Thanks for dropping by.

re: What is the best way to get rid of Gordon?

Getting this thread back on track, I'm extremely excited about a potential swap with the Bucks:

Is the ESPN trade machine up to date yet or is it a year behind on contracts, etc?

It looks like a Gordon/Smiht for Sanders/Mayo trade gets close.

We take on lots of years and dollars from El Bucks and in return they get a shorter deal with Gordon and shed two bad/questionable contracts that are redundant (assuming they wind up with Embiid) and that are bad lockerroom guys for them.

Sanders and Mayo would be immediate starters for Los Pelicanos. We might have to throw in a future 1st to sweeten the pot (or if they wanted Rivers or Pierre or something).
