You should be able to build a nice 10x10 for way under $2800. I built a 16x12 for under 1K.

Yeah, I should have clarified a bit. Didn't do a slab, built mine on blocks to get it off the ground, but used 3/4 plywood for the floor, 2x4's for the walls and T1-11 for walls.
I think I spent around $900 total, and built my own doors too, which probably saved me some money.
