I read this expecting it to be a non-story.
There are a variety of ways sex can be dealt with that are, more or less, appropriate for a middle-school aged student.
Heaviness in the thighs? She felt him cum?
I'm by no means a prude, and by no means against young readers being challenged... additionally, I would have no issue with a teenager reading that sort of book of their own volition.
How the hell could a school assign that? That is wildly inappropriate for a mandated school assignment.

Do you think that the person who assigned it actaully read it beforehand, or do you think they said "hey.. here's a book written by a local author who can come in and personally talk about the book to the class.. we'll read this one" without having a clue as to what the book contained.
