We dropped the lower unit to un kink the speedometer hose and when we put the lower unit back a small bit of oil leaked out. Any idea what might have caused that?

Lower unit over fill. To refill/drain, you take out the bottom first, then the top. To fill, pump oil in from bottom till oil flows out the top. Then install top plug, then the bottom.
