diamond tries to dismiss the intelligence gap in G/G/S, but he ignores the very likely explanation for why intelligence increases over time in society. the good news is that it can be advanced over time in societies. the bad news is that the gap exists in real time.
and this doesn't apply to any one race. even asian countries suffer from the issues, despite their reputation in the US today
