not really. they're trying to get back a pretty expensive piece of property that the police refuse to do anything about

and they use terrible propaganda to act like recovering it is difficult/scary, when the worst "bad" example was a fight that broke out...between the thief and the owner (which, ironically, got the police off their arse)

then, the police/state offers this 100X SCARIER solution:

the ultimate irony is that the arm of government attempting to dissuade people from protecting their privacy is claiming that they are the superior entity to protect property...while fully admitting the reason why individuals attempting this on their own is due to the failure of their own entity (the narrative that you may end up in a dangerous area)
