My father-in-law had dementia and later alzheimers. He went to a nursing home shortly after the dementia diagnosis. On more than one occasion on days when he knew me. He would tell me he didn't want to live like this and to bring him his pistol and a bullet. Of course I couldn't but in a way I felt like I was letting him down for not doing it. He died after about 2 1/2 years in the nursing home.

Mom has it. And she is only 65.
It fricking sucks big time not being able to have a real conversation with her any more, and likely never again.
