In my experience, Sod is great if you want a quick lawn, but also a pain if you really want it smooth. Most of the houses in my neighborhood had to bring in dirt the following year to fill in the gaps.

I would get it as smooth as possible and hydroseed it. Cheaper than Sod, faster than spreading seed.
