If you had to pick between the two, a high quality rod is much more important than a $250 reel
ETA: same with inshore unless you're just chunking a popping cork
With that said, I have both ends of the spectrum in my arsenal- basic $40 Allstar + $200 Chronarch and also my dad's $100 Falcon + $90 Caenan. Give me the Chronarch and allstar any day of the week.
I'll be switching the rods for those setups and retiring the Caenan though.
